Quick Summary: A Supreme AEG sniper rifle. Reliable shooting and accuracy, but with a nasty creaky body and quite a few quirks. I've owned and skirmished with my TM PSG-1 for several years now and have scored many satisfying longer-ranged hits with it in the forests or Yorkshire. During this time I have found the rifle to be capable of very reliable and predictable shootings with consistent ballistic arcs with each shot. It's unique back-heavy shape actually lends this exceptionally long rifle the illusion of being shorter that it actually is and makes shouldering and target acquisition ergonomically comfortable and effective. Quite frankly; this rifle is almost as long as I am tall and I had no problems with shouldering and carrying the rifle, or even stalking through thick forests with it. Unfortunately, the lighter front end of the rifle is thanks to the rifle's high percentage of plastic. Particularly nasty, low-grade plastic. It is impossible to pick up or manipulate this rifle without your ears being assaulted by a plethora of creaks and groans from the plastic components of the rifle rubbing against each other. For this to come from a manufacturer with as worthy a reputation as Tokyo Marui is honestly quite appalling. BUT. This rifle has a secret ability, unique to it amongst all Airsoft AEGs (that i know of). Thanks to the unique gearing in the AEG's gearbox. Your spring is primed BEFORE you pull the trigger. When you pull the trigger, the rifle fires instantly, before the gearbox then kicks into action and reprimes the spring ready for the next shot. It is the only AEG sniper I know of with a trigger response that can rival spring or gas AEGs (which both have their own disadvantages: Springers are harder almost exhausting to cock, gas rifles have appalling shot-to-shot inconsistencies thanks to the volatile nature of green gas.) So you're getting an AEG rifle without the disadvantage of slow trigger response, awesome right!? Weeelll... Kinda. This innovative spring-priming system that TM have introduced is not without it's flaws. After every shot you have to wait for the rifles motor to reprime the spring ready for the next shot. In the heat of battle you can often be spurred into pulling the trigger before the motor has completed its cycle, the result: A jammed gearbox requiring you to release the spring tension and try again! Obviously this was an issue TM was aware of; a spring tension release catch is located inside the trigger guard, handy! However sometimes the spring can jam with enough tension in it that you'll require the use of tools (or a very high pain threshold) to depress the tension release catch. Trigger discipline and a cool head can prevent any of this from being an issue, however so don't let it sour you too much against the PSG! One important thing to note: When you finish shooting, your spring will still be primed ready to fire. Always remember to release the spring tension before packing away the rifle to reduce inevitable wear on the spring. Another fun quirk of the PSG is the charging handle. It actually works! (sort of). Manipulating the charging handle has the effect of pre-loading one of your BBs from your mag into the chamber of the rifle. So you can feel happy in the knowledge that your strike adherence to real-steel manipulation of the gun has some purpose. Unfortunately, since you'll still need to pull the trigger to prime the spring ready for the next shot which is slightly less "real-steel". yet another fun but exceedingly pointless quirk of the rifle is the "Blow back effect" built into the rifle. Serving aesthetic purposes only; when you pull the trigger of the rifle, the ejection chamber also cycles a la "blow back style". It has no other effect on the performance of the PSG. In fact the feature only worked for a short time on my own PSG before it randomly broke and stopped working. Since you can't see this happening when your face is to the scope and it has no impact on performance I've never really cared about this fault. One fault which may (or may not) be unique to my personal rifle is that the scope does not actually point where the BB's fly. Even after adjusting to the possible maximums of windage and elevation, the BB still flies to the lower left of the scope. Exceedingly annoying, yes, but since I can still accurately aim where the BB's will be flying not too much of an issue. So. Would I buy a TM PSG-1 again? Probably, yes. It's a fantastic rifle that offers above average accuracy and performance. It is a semi-auto only AEG with a gearbox specifically tailored for the AEG's uniquely long inner barrel. It feels good to shoulder and shoot with, even if the tactile experience of the creaking nasty plastic is a downer. It has a lot of innovative features and a lot of aggravating quirks. To be honest, I expect higher build quality from TM especially in a rifle of this price range, but at least they delivered on the performance! I've noticed a few more upgrades appearing recently, including a metal body courtesy of G&G. Historically, upgrades for PSGs have always been on the more expensive side of the market, but in all honestly, the PSG-1 is a rifle that works above average out of the box. My 3 grenade scoring represents my opinion on the AEGs performance vs build quality. It has many "5 star" positives, but also a lot of "1 star" negatives for a rifle in this price range. It's accurate, it's creaky, it's innovative, it's finicky. And it's definitely a unique AEG!
